Visit to the Media Center: International Students' Short Video Workshop
On June 6th, 2025, the International Students’ Union (ISU) successfully hosted a field visit event. A total of 25 international students from 13 different countries took part in this engaging experience.
The visit was held at the Putuo District Integrated Media Center. At the start of the event, staff members guided the students through the core functional areas of the center, including the news gathering and editing departments, the advanced editing suite, and the broadcasting studio.
Afterward, the center showcased a commemorative video celebrating its fifth anniversary, which highlighted its contributions to serving Putuo and documenting the times. A series of documentaries featuring historical architecture, such as Zhenru Temple and Yuan Dynasty water gates, demonstrated the center’s efforts in uncovering and promoting local cultural heritage.

The second part of the event focused on meaningful interaction between international students and the media center. Department heads, managers, and journalists from the center joined the workshop, offering valuable and insightful presentations.
Building on the earlier site tour, the center’s leader elaborated on its developmental milestones. They emphasized the team’s youthful energy, creativity, and their dynamic approach to media production, reflecting a forward-thinking professional spirit.
The presenters also highlighted the center’s online platform “Shanghai Putuo,” designed to gather diverse perspectives and promote outstanding content. International students were warmly encouraged to stay engaged with the platform and actively contribute their work to help document and share Putuo’s stories with the world.

Two experienced journalists shared case studies from their own work. One focused on the creative process of selecting compelling topics, while the other discussed filming techniques for historical architecture. They covered the entire production cycle—from identifying trending subjects and developing unique perspectives to visual composition and post-production storytelling.

In the final session, students participated in group discussions centered on narrative innovation for a project about the Shanghai Mint. They explored ways to break away from conventional historical storytelling and experimented with creative strategies under real-world limitations.

Professional instructors provided feedback on each group’s plans, evaluating them based on script originality and filming techniques. Two outstanding groups were recognized—one for Best Script Concept and another for Best Filming Technique.

This enriching visit to the Putuo District Integrated Media Center concluded successfully. We sincerely thank the center for their professional guidance and insightful sharing, and we look forward to exploring more cross-cultural communication opportunities together in the future.
