Donghua University Seminar Review: Chinese Language Undergrads
The Department of Chinese Language at Donghua University held a student seminar on the revision of the Talent Cultivation Program for the 2025 intake of Chinese language undergraduate students. Teacher representatives and student representatives from different grades engaged in in - depth discussions on key aspects of the plan, offering suggestions for the development of the major.
Part.01
At the seminar, teachers introduced the architecture of the professional curriculum system, the rationale for its setup, and the educational philosophy. International students actively participated in the discussion. Regarding elective courses, they expressed a desire to expand the variety of courses and add courses related to economics and trade to meet diverse employment needs. They also suggested conducting advance surveys of student preferences to offer more flexible course options and remove restrictions on elective courses within academic years.
Part.02
Regarding practical activities, participants suggested adding company visits and day trips. For cultural practice activities, they hope these can be closely related to daily life, allowing for interactions with the public to enhance their understanding of Chinese culture. Additionally, there is a call to reinstate the practice week.
“Could the oral Chinese course include some internet buzzwords and popular phrases?” “Could the computer course introduce popular Chinese AI tools and commonly used apps?” In terms of curriculum content optimization, international students have also offered suggestions, hoping that the teaching content can be more practical, include popular vocabulary, and cover the development of AI.
Part.03
During the free exchange session, students shared the difficulties they encountered in their studies, with daily social expression and written communication skills being the key challenges. In addition, they discussed future career directions and career planning.
The seminar provided a platform for teachers and international students to communicate, and the students' opinions and suggestions offered important references for the revision of the Talent Cultivation Program in Chinese language.
