Tongji University Launches “Perceiving China - International Transportation Talents' Smart Tour in Taizhou”

From May 7 to 11, the 2025 "Perceiving China - International Transportation Talents' Smart Tour in Taizhou" event was successfully held in Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province. The event was organized by the China Scholarship Council and hosted by Tongji University. Through three main modules of activities—site visits, corporate research, and cultural exploration—participants explored China's achievements in transportation and urban construction, and built a practical platform for cross-cultural exchange.

The camp visited the construction site of the Coastal Embankment Safety Project (Jiaojiang-Huangyan Section) to learn about its "coastal embankment + " concept and the comprehensive coastal ecological and cultural tourism space layout.  At Huangyan No. 1 Elevated Bridge and Smart Beam Yard, engineers introduced the tensioning methods and principles of prestressed steel bars in beam segments, and both sides had in-depth discussions on the diameter and stress forms of steel bars.

At the Taizhou Bay New Area Planning Hall, the camp learned that the new area adheres to a development strategy of "living and thriving by the sea," focusing on innovation-driven, green development, and open cooperation to promote industrial transformation and upgrading, and to achieve high-end, intelligent, and green development. At the Huangyan Transportation and Tourism Group Building, the camp had discussions with the head of Zhejiang Transportation and Tourism Low-altitude Technology Co., Ltd. on topics such as the development strategy of low-altitude economy. At the Taizhou Low-altitude Economic Industrial Park, the person in charge demonstrated the drone inspection plan on the spot. The plan covers more than 70 government affairs scenarios and directly addresses the pain points of traditional inspection that are time-consuming and labor-intensive. The study camp showed great interest in the significant application effect and broad development prospects of UAV.

Taizhou's diverse and vibrant industries attracted the camp to the front line of corporate production. At Jack Sewing Machine Co., Ltd., the camp visited the sewing machine assembly line and the operation process of the robotic arm automatic packaging system, immersing themselves in the efficiency and precision of modern intelligent manufacturing. At Fangyuan Group, one of China's top 500 private enterprises, the camp learned about the innovative practices of digital transformation and intelligent upgrading in the construction industry, and had discussions on the application of BIM technology and intelligent robots in smart construction. At Jinmao Plastics Co., Ltd., the camp visited the corporate exhibition hall to learn about its research and development capabilities and market competitiveness.

At the 1688 Taizhou Daily Necessities Sourcing Center, the camp members gained a deep understanding of the e-commerce operation model and sincerely admired the rapid development and strong vitality of China's e-commerce industry.

During the Taizhou trip, the camp experienced the local cultural heritage and ecological civilization construction. The Taizhou Embroidery Museum showcased embroidery works from the Ming and Qing dynasties, the Republic of China, and modern times, reflecting the integration of tradition and modernity. As an important platform for the display and inheritance of embroidery art, the museum has set an excellent example for the protection and innovation of traditional culture. At Baiyun Mountain, the highest peak in Jiaojiang District, the camp experienced Taizhou's urban construction and natural ecology, overlooked the entire city of Taizhou, and felt the harmonious coexistence of the city and nature, as well as China's respect and protection for ecology in urban development.

Upon entering the Yijiangshan Island Landing Battle Memorial Hall, the Chinese and foreign students in the camp learned about the history of China's first joint operation of the army, navy, and air force, and expressed their respect for the heroic deeds of the People's Liberation Army. At the end of the event, the camp visited the Huangyan Stone Caves, which have a history of more than 1,500 years. The successful transformation of this abandoned quarry into an active use of abandoned industrial sites provides new ideas for the inheritance of historical culture, the promotion of local economic development, the improvement of public cultural literacy, and the promotion of ecological civilization construction.

This "Perceiving China" trip to Taizhou enabled the camp to measure the pulse of urban development with their footsteps and bridge cultural barriers through communication. From the wisdom and innovation of infrastructure projects to the inheritance and renewal of traditional crafts; from the vigorous development of industries to the profound accumulation of culture, international students have deeply perceived China's development achievements in diverse scenarios. This trip also allowed different civilizations to bloom with new brilliance through mutual learning. It is a vivid practice of blending Chinese and foreign cultures.
