The 2024 China Shanghai Education Fair recently took place in Tokyo, Japan, and Seoul, South Korea, promoting Shanghai's education system and the "Study in Shanghai" brand.
Organized by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, the fair saw participation from 25 universities, including Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and four high schools. The exhibitions also received support from the Chinese embassies in Japan and South Korea.
On Sept 17, a "Study in Shanghai" briefing session was held at J.F. Oberlin University in Japan, attracting representatives from 48 Japanese institutions. Discussions covered new trends and challenges in international education. Universities from both sides conducted one-on-one meetings to explore potential cooperation opportunities.
From Sept 21 to 22, the Shanghai Education Fair was held as part of the 56th International Education & Career Korea 2024 Fall in Seoul, which featured over 160 exhibitors from more than 20 countries. The Shanghai booth attracted significant attention, with long lines at the Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University sections.
The Shanghai delegation also visited Chuo University and Waseda University in Japan, and Yonsei University and Hanyang University in South Korea, discussing student exchanges and inter-university cooperation.
Zheng Jin, head of the Shanghai delegation, said that Japan and South Korea have historically been major sources of international students for Shanghai's universities and emphasized the importance of strengthening educational ties between Shanghai and these countries to foster greater youth exchange.
