In celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Shanghai's Quyang Community hosted a vibrant cross-cultural event featuring performances by international students from 15 countries studying at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) and local residents.

The evening kicked off with a performance of "Blossoming Flowers under the Full Moon" by a Quyang folk orchestra, setting a festive tone.

Mahmoud Soliman, an Egyptian teacher from SISU who used to live in the Quyang community, then took the stage to offer Mid-Autumn Festival greetings to the audience. He shared his experiences living in Shanghai for the past nine years and expressed a desire to bridge the Chinese and Egyptian cultures.

Quyang Community has been promoting cultural exchange through a diverse array of activities. During the event, some international students who participated in the cross-cultural training camp organized by Quyang Community and SISU gave performances. Highlights included a Peking Opera segment by a Thai student and a Chinese pop song by a student from Madagascar.

Zhang Xinyu from the SISU International Student Office said that collaboration with the community over the past year has significantly enhanced students' cross-cultural communication skills. "Students usually stay on campus and rarely get to experience the local community and residents' lives. These cultural exchange activities helped deepen their understanding of different cultures and enrich their social circles."

Performances also included a rap and dance by students from Japan, Slovakia, and the SISU Dance Club, a clapper talk by a Nigerian student and a dance by students from Russia, Italy, and Ukraine. Vietnamese students introduced their Mid-Autumn customs and distributed traditional lanterns.

A local resident surnamed Gu praised the performances, noting the excellent Chinese language skills of the international students. The event concluded with awards for cultural exchange, encouraging more participation in the fostering of an inclusive community.
