Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) warmly welcomed new international students on Sept 2, as students from a variety of countries gathered to begin a new chapter in their academic journeys.

Continuing the tradition of "seniors guiding freshmen," international student volunteers were on hand to confirm information, distribute gifts, explain the registration process, and assist new students.

"Seeing them is like seeing myself two years ago. I hope I can help them feel more at ease," said a Vietnamese student. A Russian student, meanwhile, said, "This is my second time volunteering. I feel more experienced now, and seeing my compatriots makes me feel especially close." A Moroccan student added, "When I first came here, I needed guidance. Besides Arabic, I can also speak French and English. I want to help out."

As the new semester begins, students are expressing their hopes and dreams. A Nigerian student said that she looks forward to meeting new classmates and teachers and aims to excel academically. An Arabic interpretation graduate student, meanwhile, hopes to make more Chinese friends. And a student from Thailand wants to achieve higher academic goals.
