Global learners praise Diverse China Summer Program at East China Normal University
The 2024 Experience Diverse China Summer Program of Shanghai's East China Normal University offered Chinese language learners from around the world a chance to have a diverse Chinese cultural immersion experience this summer.
The program included classroom teachings, one-on-one tutoring, language games, and real-life communication, making the journey of learning Mandarin both rich and colorful.
According to participants, it not only enriched their Mandarin skills but also provided a holistic experience of Chinese culture, cuisine, and hospitality.
"One-on-one tutoring sessions on Tuesday afternoons helped improve my oral proficiency and cultural understanding, and friendly and detailed explanations from teachers made mastering Mandarin easier," said an attendee of the Chinese class.
"The cultural courses covered ancient Chinese poetry, traditional attire, music, and Peking Opera. For me, a highlight was creating hand fans with brush and ink, allowing me to feel like an ancient Chinese artist," said one of the participants.
"This is my first time visiting China, and Shanghai's modernity exceeded my expectations. Using QR codes for entry, payments, public transport, and ordering meals was both surprising and convenient. Beautiful campus surroundings and delicious, affordable meals in the school cafeteria added to the experience. Despite some communication challenges, the friendliness of locals, friends, dormitory staff, and strangers offering directions were deeply appreciated," said another participant.
