SJTU Intl Summer School hosts top physics students worldwide
Themed "The Largest and the Smallest", the 2024 Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) Physics International Summer School recently concluded, attracting 121 top physics students from 37 prestigious universities around the world, including Peking University, Oxford University, and Tohoku University.
Jointly organized by Zhiyuan College and the Tsung-Dao Lee Institute at SJTU, the summer program offered an innovative curriculum with high-quality courses, academic lectures, and interactions with leading scholars such as Ding Hong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Michael Ramsey-Musolf, chair professor at the Tsung-Dao Lee Institute, and Anthony Zee, academician of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Courses included "Quantum Computation", "Astrophysics of Compact Objects, Transients and Exoplanets", "More Matter Than Antimatter: When and How?", "Quantum Field Theory, an Overview", and "Quantum Field Theory: some applications to particle physics and to condensed matter physics".
Students engaged in academic activities such as Chalk Talk, lab visits, and peer sharing sessions, fostering deeper understanding and collaboration. Cultural experiences included tours of the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility and the Shanghai Astronomy Museum.
The program concluded with group presentations on academic questions, with students reflecting on their enriching experiences.
The SJTU International Summer School enhances academic exchanges, fosters a rich academic atmosphere, and inspires scientific innovation among top students. Future programs across various disciplines are planned to continue cultivating international academic exchanges and talent development.
