2024 FISU World University Championship Futsal concludes in Shanghai

The 18th FISU World University Championship Futsal, themed "Dream for Futsal, Heartbeat for Shanghai," concluded successfully on June 16 at the gymnasium of Shanghai University of Engineering Science, leaving a legacy of sportsmanship, international friendship, and cultural exchange.

The event saw participation from 21 teams representing 16 countries and regions. Over the course of seven days, 51 matches were played, highlighting the resilient spirit and exceptional skills of these university athletes. The championship served as a bridge for promoting international exchange and fostering friendships among young athletes.

The team awards for the women's and men's groups were presented on stage. Brazil clinched the gold in the women's group, followed by Portugal with silver and China with bronze. In the men's group, Croatia took gold, Brazil won silver, and France secured bronze.

In his closing speech, Wang Hao, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, praised the athletes for their perseverance and sportsmanship. He emphasized that the event had created unforgettable moments of competition and camaraderie, and went on to urge participants to carry these memories forward in their pursuit of excellence.

FISU Executive Committee Member Sami Alphonse Garabetian highlighted the championship's role in promoting global cooperation and peace through sports. He commended the athletes for their extraordinary skills and indomitable spirit, which he is sure will continue to shine in their future endeavors.

The closing ceremony featured cultural performances by students from several Shanghai universities. These performances celebrated teamwork, perseverance, and friendship, while also showcasing the charm of Shanghai culture, the grace of the Jiangnan region, and the essence of traditional Chinese culture.

The tournament concluded with a flag handover ceremony, passing the baton to Poland, the host of the 2026 FISU World University Championship Futsal.
