It was my first time participating in YICGG. I entered the preliminary round as an individual participant, presenting my proposal on "Transforming into a city in nature: lessons for Singapore for China's national park system." During the final round, my team comprised members from China, Singapore, Italy, Jordan, Morocco, and Romania. Over a limited time of two days, we engaged in numerous discussions and field investigations. From the initial team meeting to countless roundtable discussions and overnight preparation of the proposal report, this experience significantly strengthened our cohesion and showcased the spirit of youth and our dedication to a common cause.

I think one of the most profound aspects of this competition was the diversity and unity among the participants. Everyone is very enthusiastic and fosters an open, friendly, and supportive atmosphere.

This was actually my second time visiting Yunnan Dali, participating in YICGG allowed me to experience things I had never encountered before. Meeting new friends from all over the world, exploring the Yulong Conservative Reserve to conduct field investigations and in-depth studies on Yunnan's biodiversity conservation. All of these experiences showed me a different side of Dali and left me with fond memories of this place.

As an international student from Fudan University, my biggest achievement was to get selected for YICGG 2023. In the final round, my team presented “The Future of Conservation with DNA Sequencing”. We proposed an alternative strategy when species sample is hard to find is to sequence the environment with plants and microbiomes.

Two of the most insightful features of this programme were a field trip to Yulong Conservative Reserve in Dali and Cultural Night. I learnt a lot from the field trip and at cultural night, I presented “Vibrant Culture of Pakistan”.

YICGG 2023 was an opportunity not only to test myself and put my knowledge background to use in a dynamic environment, but also to develop new communication and other relevant skills. Team work was particularly important for a successful engagement with the activities proposed by the organization. Consequently, the bonds we created during the intense days of the YICGG will certainly be maintained and, I would dare say, further strengthened throughout years to come. I would say that, more than anything, these connections with people - friends, colleagues, and professors - are the main attraction of YICGG. I already miss them all!

Participating in YICGG also let me know new places, adding to my comprehension of the world and of China. Undoubtedly, visiting Yunnan was a blast! I cannot wait to return to this amazing province, and I am sure that, the heart-warming memories I have had this year during YICGG will be cherished forever.

I met a lot of people that came from different backgrounds, culture and nations, and the most important thing I learned from this competition was how to build team work, cooperation and connection with each other.

At the final presentation of our group I had a chance to present my beloved country East Timor. I was so happy to share to the world about one island of my country named Atauro. It really gives me hope that one day East Timor can become a host to the next YICGG.
