The Legoland Shanghai Resort has reached its halfway point in construction, with official sources indicating that the theme park is scheduled to commence trial operations in the spring of 2025 ahead of a full opening in the summer.

The resort aims to finish all civil engineering projects and have some of its amusement facilities installed by the end of this year, according to a report from the local news portal Shanghai Observer on Feb 29.

Consisting of a Lego theme park and a theme hotel, the resort started construction in September 2023.

"The trial operation will kick off early next year, and it is expected to attract about three to five million passengers trips annually," a person in charge of the project was quoted as saying.

Situated in the southwestern outskirts of Shanghai's Jinshan district, the Legoland Shanghai Resort is poised to become one of the largest Legoland parks globally. This unique flagship park will blend traditional Chinese culture, elements of traditional water towns, and features unique to Shanghai, offering an innovative and integrated park experience design.

The Legoland Shanghai Resort is a collaborative project involving Shanghai Jinshan Urban Construction Investment Group Co., the United Kingdom's Merlin Entertainments Group, Denmark's KIRKBI investment group, which owns 75 percent of The LEGO Group, and China's media and entertainment group CMC Inc.
