The 2026 International Student Summer Camp and Shanghai Summer School program officially kicked off on August 14 at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), with an opening ceremony held at the university's Hongkou campus.

Chen Zhuofen, deputy dean of SISU's School of Chinese Studies and School of International Cultural Exchange, spoke at the opening ceremony. She welcomed the incoming students, gave a brief introduction to the university and its programs for international students, and reminded them to stay safe and make the most of their time in Shanghai.

The Shanghai Summer School is sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. This year, SISU is running three specialized tracks: advanced interpreter training, Chinese language education for Global South countries, and a program on modernization and urban development in the Yangtze River Delta. A total of 60 students from 18 countries — including Brazil, Spain, Peru, Iraq, the UAE, and Egypt — are enrolled in the program. Representatives from SISU's own International Student Summer Camp also attended the opening ceremony.

The month-long program includes Chinese language courses at multiple proficiency levels, along with a range of extracurricular activities. Students will step outside the classroom to explore Shanghai and the surrounding Yangtze River Delta region, gaining a firsthand look at urban development and modern Chinese society along the way.

For the students, the journey ahead is about more than language — it is a chance to learn, connect, and build friendships across cultures.
