On the afternoon of May 16, the 18th “Jiayuan Cup” Dragon Boat Race kicked off at Tongji University’s Jiading Campus. Vice President Zhao Xianzhong attended the opening ceremony, cheering on the participants and encouraging everyone to race with teamwork and determination.

The event brought together nearly 500 competitors from 28 faculty-student teams, 6 alumni teams, and 2 teams from partner universities.

A team of international students from more than 10 countries delivered an impressive performance, securing second place in the Open Category. Racing alongside their Chinese peers, the international students experienced the excitement and cultural tradition of dragon boat racing — a sport built on teamwork, perseverance, and shared effort.

The “Jiayuan Cup” enriches campus life and brings traditional Chinese culture into sports education. It also brings together students from different backgrounds, showcasing the vibrant and international spirit of Tongji.
