Donghua University’s “Splendid China” Lecture Series: International Students Explore Polymer Materials and Clean Water Technology

| May 9, 2026

As one of the "China Series" courses in Donghua University, "Splendid China"  is committed to telling the stories of China in the new era to international students, enabling them to have a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of China's history, culture, social development and future blueprint. This academic year, we were honored to invite Professor Shuguang,Yang to deliver a special lecture on materials science. Lets take a moment to review the highlights.

PART.01 POLYMER FOR CLEAN WATER

Water is essential for life.  Around the world, many counties face the critical issue of fresh water shortage, and hence different strategies are applied for fresh water according to practical situation. In China we have a series of legislation to protect water pollution and have the national project to move fresh water from the south to the north through building reservoirs and canals. At the same time, we develop new technologies to produce fresh water from salted water and sea water. In this lecture, Prof. Shuguang, Yang introduced polymer materials for clean water, making better life.

During the lecture, Professor Shuguang, Yang introduced the development history of fluoropolymers. With real-life examples, he vividly explained their wide applications and significant value in daily life, industrial manufacturing, environmental technology and other fields. After the lecture, Professor Yang led the students on a tour of the Analysis and Measurement Center, where they learned about large-scale precision instruments and research platforms. The combination of theory and practice brought students a rewarding experience.
