Tongji University Hosts Spring 2026 Orientation for International Students from 70 Countries
The spring semester at Tongji University kicked off with a three-day orientation from February 26th to 28th, welcoming nearly 300 new international students from 70 countries, including Germany, France, Spain, and Canada. Designed to ensure a smooth transition, the event provided a professional support system to help these new arrivals integrate into campus life.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the International Student Office, relevant departments, and academic schools, the orientation ran smoothly and efficiently. Preparations began early, with student ID numbers assigned and academic plans finalized during the break. The registration process was carefully streamlined, featuring a centralized check-in point on Siping Road Campus and dedicated volunteer support at Jiading Campus. A team of over 20 international student volunteers offered both online and on-site guidance and consultation throughout.
This all-in-one registration model allowed new students to complete all necessary procedures at a single location, making the process highly convenient while also improving overall efficiency. On-site service desks for bank card and SIM card applications were also available for those who needed them. In addition, each new student received a welcome kit containing practical items such as the Shanghai International Residents' Handbook, a campus map, a campus life guide, and an ID card holder—all designed to help them settle into university life more quickly.

As the spring rain falls and all things revive, we welcome you to Tongji—a place to pursue your ambitions and engage with the world. Just in time for the traditional Lantern Festival, a rich variety of orientation activities helped international students familiarize themselves with campus life while also experiencing the charm of Chinese culture. We sincerely hope that every international student will write their own remarkable chapter here at Tongji University—a thriving, international community where futures take flight.
