On the afternoon of August 1, 2025, the summer Chinese language program jointly organized by France's UPEC University and East China Normal University successfully concluded.

During the month-long program, 19 French students not only immersed themselves in intensive Mandarin studies but also experienced the unique charm of traditional Chinese cultural practices like calligraphy and tai chi. Their cultural exploration took them to Yu Garden, where they wandered among classical pavilions and corridors, savoring the delicate elegance of Jiangnan water-town architecture. In the labyrinthine alleyways of Tianzifang, they discovered the vibrant local life and historical essence of Shanghai's traditional lane culture. Through these diverse experiences, the students gained intimate exposure to the profound depth and distinctive appeal of Chinese culture, creating unforgettable memories while acquiring valuable knowledge.

The scorching summer sun did nothing to dampen the students' enthusiasm as they ventured out. Weaving through the ancient architecture of Yu Garden and strolling along the alleyways of Tianzifang, they seemed to traverse time itself, experiencing the unique charm of these temporal crossroads. Every brick and tile, every lane and alley bore witness to Shanghai's history and memories. Through their explorations, the students not only felt the city's vibrant pulse but also touched the very fabric of time itself.

To enhance the authentic experience, we held our calligraphy class at the Hu Wensui Art Museum – a beautifully preserved 120-year-old former guild hall from late Qing Dynasty. Amidst its courtyard layouts, grey-brick architecture and carved corridors, students wielded brushes in dialogue with centuries of history, absorbing calligraphy's profound legacy.

3 Tai Chi

Students meticulously learned each movement, embodying the graceful strength and fluid power characteristic of this martial art.
