The fourth Shanghai Summer School - RCEP Marine Culture International Program and the sixth SHOU Global Summer School recently concluded successfully, celebrating academic growth and cross-cultural exchanges among 34 students from nine countries.

Hosted by Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU), these programs aimed to foster international collaboration and understanding in the context of marine culture and environmental sustainability.

Students participated in various activities during the programs, including lectures, field trips, and cultural events. The curriculum covered a wide range of topics, such as marine biodiversity, sustainable fisheries, and the impact of climate change on marine ecosystems. Expert faculty from SHOU and guest lecturers worldwide provided students with in-depth knowledge and practical insights.

Field trips were a highlight of the programs, offering students hands-on experiences in marine research and conservation. Visits to local aquaculture farms, marine research institutes, and coastal ecosystems allowed students to observe and engage with real-world applications of their studies. These excursions enriched their academic understanding and fostered a deeper appreciation for the complexities of marine environments.

Cultural exchange was another key component, with students participating in traditional Chinese cultural activities such as calligraphy, painting, and dragon boat racing. These activities helped students gain a broader perspective on Chinese culture and traditions, enhancing their overall experience.

The closing ceremony featured presentations by students, showcasing their research findings and reflections on their experiences. Irene Tiong Kai Ru, one of the participants, said that she marveled at China's marine engineering development and gained a deeper understanding of Chinese culture through various activities.

Hoang Thuy Vi, a high school student, highlighted the importance of cross-cultural communication learned through teamwork projects, expressing her eagerness to apply these lessons to her future academic and career paths.

Vice President of SHOU Jiang Min praised the students' growth, communication, and inspiration, highlighting their deepened knowledge and expanded international perspectives. She encouraged them to pursue academic excellence and welcomed them back to SHOU for future studies.
